15 million souls are living in a box call Jakarta nowadays. 15 million souls are competing every day to fight for their living. This box grew up inside with its very own way; sporadic like rain season mushroom. On February 2002, Jakarta was jamming because of the flood. Many people were trapped on their car in the street for 12 hours and more because of the traffic jam. February 2007, it’s happen again and even bigger than before. Many areas that’s not supposed to be “flood area” in Jakarta, is now flooded. Jakarta is becoming gigantic pool.
It doesn’t need sophisticated research by professor to know what the problem of this city is. This capital city have immortal disease that caused by the system that develop by itself. Development that revolutionary started since early 80′s was a make over for the city as a politic propaganda of Soeharto to make it looks really modern.
This centralistic development is using this city as a chance to exploit every single corner of it. Since the beginning until today, many buildings made by crossing every single basic rules that made by the government itself. It was erasing many areas that supposed to be water reservoir, green area, absorb land, and replaced it with high tall offices buildings, super mall, free way, and many more. The city never fixed them but just try to cover up their wound and put thick make up here and there like a naughty boy try to hiding his crime out of his parents.
Today we see how nature talks vis a vis with human artificial intelligence. Mass floods that bring big damage on the city we can say as the winning of nature to human greedy and stupidity. The floods that happen now will bring another problem really soon; dengue and breath problem. Who is the first victim? Children and poor people that are never in secure area.
Jakarta is still becoming the biggest magnet of urbanization in Indonesia. Every year, the number of migration from small city or villages grew up in very significant number. It’s all because of opportunity that people can get from this city compare all difficulties that they’re has to face in their village and the story will repeat in the same circle like the axis of devil.
Jakartans pay what they have to pay now and the price is too expensive especially when their destiny are in the hands of stupid-idiotic-elite group who’s now seems very comfortable on their bed and with their sweet dream while people outside have to face their truly real nightmare. It’s been 2 days the flood conquering the city all the system is break down. It could be perfect time to say; shutdown Jakarta!
